notifi is a web-based application that executes on a defined frequency. Paths to logfiles (or SQL tables) are defined and rules are applied to those logfiles. The rules are logfile specific. Associated with the rules is the ability to ‘scrap’ content from the error message and use it in SQL scripts to provide more detailed descriptions for email alerts.
When notifi executes, it processes each logfile by starting at the last position and moving forward in the file. Each entry is processed against the defined rules. If a rule is violated, then the alert process that is configured will be followed. This process is completed for each defined logfile.

Here at Kreativ we had the same question. So, we did some benchmarking and did a test to try and ‘overload’ the application. We set up several processes so that they would continuously generate errors to their logfiles while at the same time disabling notifi. This caused the logfiles to grow abnormally to a large size exceeding 200-300+ Mb.
Next, once the logfiles had reached increased to the above size, notifi parsed the logfiles by running the parse script directly in the Chrome browser, each logfile was processed (200-300+ Mb). The required resources were monitored by visually observing the Task Manager process for Google Chrome. The increase on CPU was < 1% and there was no significant increase observed for memory.
